BitLocker To Go: Changing the password
1. Foreword
In order to protect sensitive company data on mobile removable storage devices, for example in case of loss, these drives are encrypted by IT using the BitLocker To Go tool, i.e. a password must be entered to access them. As part of the basic setup of the storage device, a temporary password is assigned, which you must change immediately after receiving the storage device. You can also use these instructions to change your existing password.
Attention: Please note that if you lose your password, there is no way to recover it, i.e. access to the data on this drive without a password is no longer possible and can also not be recovered by IT.
2. Changing the BitLocker To Go password
Connect the disk to your computer, open Windows Explorer and double-click the encrypted drive (marked with a lock icon):
You will be prompted to enter the current (temporary) password to unlock the drive:
After unlocking the drive, right-click the drive in Windows Explorer again and select Change BitLocker Password (BitLocker-Kennwort ändern):
First enter the old / temporary password (1), then twice the new password (2 & 3) you have chosen and confirm the entry by clicking on Change password (Kennwort ändern) (4):
That's all - you have sucessfully changed the BitLocker To Go password.
